Todos Santos.....another magic spot of Baja...for so many reasons...the mildness of the weather in the winter time to start : So much nicer than Cabo Pulmo in the winter, no wind !! and the water is warmer, swimable...perfect for surfing, which is one of my next projects...jajaja...learn to ride waves and drink a lot of salty water !!!jajajaja
Also, we discovered a "secret" spot in Todos Santos where the whales come to play in the waves, literally on the beach, maybe 40 feet from shore in a few feet deep of water...It seems they use the sandy bottom and the strength of the waves to scrap their backs covered with conchs and parasites...quite amazing....the brave one can go for a swim with them, until you are kindly adviced to leave the area by the Mama whale. We snorkeled with the 8 of them at one point, we got a few feet away from them, including babies....Unbelievable !! But the game time was short, the mothers were not too excited about our presence and ended the games quickly...they were clear messages : no words need to be said and I got out of the water with the images of this magic encounter....More than the size of the animals, I was even more amazed by their intelligence and sense of communication..After a while, they made very clear that my presence was getting annoying among their games...they could feel me perfectly and know where I was, what I was doing....they could have hurt me so easily but always managed to avoid me by a few inches sometimes, quite amazing considering the sizes of the whales...The signal was giving by a Mum who lifted her tail in the air a few meters away from me and slapped the water without hurting me, perfectly calculated movement and a very clear sign to say : " Game over !!"....I swam directly to shore, no need for a second warning !!
Todos Santos ....otro pueblo magico de Baja California....por tantas razones. Para empezar un buen escape del viento que enloquece Cabo Pulmo en invierno, y aguas mas calientitas que en el Mar de Cortez...luego sus "spots" de surf, otro de mis proyectos personales, jajaja, aprender a surfear bien y tomar mucha agua salada !!! jajajaja....parece un buen lugar para aprender...
Tambien, encontramos un lugar increible donde vienen a jugar las ballenas a la orilla de la playa de Todos Santos....a unos metros de la orilla, donde rompe la ola, vienen las ballenas a rascar sus gigantescas espaldas cubiertas de parasitos y conchas en los fondos arenosos ayudadas por la fuerza de las olas...Vienen en familia, hasta los bebes recien nacidos que se aventaran el gran viaje del invierno aprenden estas manias....Nos metimos al agua con ellas, me rodearon hasta 8 animales al mismo momento, una vision submarina inolvidable...pensando que cada animal pesa unas 20 toneladas...=)....ya tome conciencia de su fuerza y tambien de su inteligencia...en ningun momento, nos pusieron en peligro, aunque sus cuerpos pasaban a veces a menos de un metro de mi....Despues de un rato, una de las mamas decidio que ya se habia acabado mi tiempo de jugueteo, y levanto su cola y la aplasto en la superficie del agua a unos metros de mi....vaya susto !! pero realice que era una senal bastante clara !! y que el animal habia calculado perfectamente su movimiento, porque hubiera podido aplastarme como un miserable bicho molesto !!! jajajaja....no tuvo que decirmelo dos veces...sali del agua como en un sueno....
